Individual Counselling
Individual counseling is a type of therapy that provides one-on-one support and guidance to an individual, helping them address personal, emotional, or mental health issues that may be affecting their daily life and well-being.Couples & Family Counselling
Couples and family counselling focuses on the interconnectedness within a family system, recognizing that problems in one area can impact the entire family.Goals includ improving communication, strengthening relationships, resolving conflicts, and promoting healthy family functioning.
Group Support Sessions
Throughout the year we offer support groups that can provide general support with various common life challenges in a casual group setting. Groups we have offered include topics of: Loss and Grief, Stress Management, Teenager Parents, Coping with Life, Littles parents, Digital Detox for Kids/Adults, Mindfulness for Adults, Mindfulness for Kids, Anger management. Please contact the office to find out what groups may be currently running or to express an interest in a particular group.In-person
Our office has private spaces for individual & couples counselling, as well as a family space.

Sometimes making a trip for an in-person session is not easy. We can offer private sessions by telephone.
Virtual Counselling
Some sessions may be offered with a remote counsellor. If technology access is difficult or you need a safe private space away from your routine, we offer a private office with computer ready for your virtual counselling session.
About us
The Port Alberni Family Guidance Association (PAFGA) was founded in 1970. PAFGA is a registered charity in Port Alberni, BC, and provides counselling services in the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District. It ensures that qualified professionals are available to teach and counsel individuals, groups, and families experiencing life difficulties.We welcome everyone from youth and children, families and step-families struggling with grief and/or loss, parenting troubles, anger and stress management, communication problems, and other life issues.
In our team, we have two counsellors who are registered Social Workers, two Clinical Counsellors, and one Youth Outreach Worker (BSW).
No referral is necessary. All inquires and personal concerns are confidential.

Our free services are also made possible by private donations. You can donate in-person at our office with cash or cheque, or online through Canada Helps. Qualified donations are eligible for a tax receipt.
